Roosevelt Resident Carrie Baldwin Celebrates 103rd Birthday!

Happy birthday to Carolyn “Carrie” Baldwin, who at 103 is one of the oldest citizens in the Chicago area! The Roosevelt at Salt Creek hosted a birthday celebration for Carrie, complete with cake, balloons, live music, dancing, and even a visit from Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin, who declared Friday, April 18th as Carrie Baldwin Day.

Carrie joined The Roosevelt community in 2015 and helps manage the resale shop. Reflecting, she says, "If I look back, I had a good life, and I thank the good Lord for it.” Born in Rockville, IL, Carrie worked as a children’s librarian for 25 years and saw first-hand a range of historical moments, including both World War II and the Civil Rights Movement. Married to her husband James Phillip Baldwin at 19, the couple went on to have three children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

On the topic of living a long, healthy and happy life, Carrie credits her good genes, exercising the mind and body, avoiding stress, and valuing each day as a blessing.

Various major news stations featured Carie and her story as well as the birthday festivities. Click here to read NBC Chicago’s coverage of the event and check out the video features below.
